Benninghoff Responds to Governor’s Budget Proposal
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett today delivered his annual budget address before a joint session of the House and Senate in Harrisburg. After the address, Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) offered the following statement:

“The governor’s address signals the beginning of the budget process. In the weeks and months ahead, the House and Senate will review the proposal and dig deeper into the details. We will work with the governor to deliver an on-time budget that spends within taxpayers’ means.

“I applaud the governor’s focus on private-sector job creation. When the economy is struggling, there are less revenues to support the core functions of government. The best way to enhance our ability to invest in things like schools and universities is for us to improve the economy. When more people are working, spending and investing in our Commonwealth, tax revenues go up and we can afford to do more.

“I am sensitive to the proposed funding levels for our colleges and universities. That is something we will need to review and look at as the process moves forward. I think most members of the House and Senate support the important work being done by the colleges and universities in Pennsylvania to prepare our young men and women to begin their careers. The obstacle we are up against is the fact that tax dollars are a limited resource. We need to find a way to use them in the most efficient and responsible manner possible.”
