Benninghoff, Harris Congratulate Mifflin County School District for Receiving $1.5 Million Literacy Grant
BELLEFONTE – State Reps. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) and Adam Harris (R-Snyder/Mifflin/Juniata) today congratulated Mifflin County School District, which is slated to receive $1.5 million in federal funds awarded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to help students learn to read.

“Reading is a fundamental building block of learning,” Benninghoff said. “These dollars will help to ensure more Mifflin County students are able to read. I offer my congratulations to the teachers and administrators who applied for this grant, and am glad to assist in securing this additional funding for Mifflin County schools.”

The money is being provided through a Keystones to Opportunity (KtO) grant, which is funded through the federal Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Program and administered by the Commonwealth.

KtO grants help districts to foster reading achievement through the use of digital technology and education strategies based on data-driven decisions.

“Learning to read opens up a variety of opportunities for students,” Harris said. “Whatever a student’s dream might be – whether he or she wants to be a doctor, firefighter, teacher or businessperson – reading will be a part of every day of that young person’s future. I was pleased to learn that these funds will be available to help our local students.”
