Benninghoff Named House Finance Committee Chairman
HARRISBURG – Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) today was officially appointed to serve as chairman of the state House Finance Committee, which handles most legislation dealing with tax cuts and revenue enhancements.

“Tax dollars are a limited resource that state government must spend in a responsible manner,” Benninghoff said. “To the extent possible, tax policy should be fair and equitable. It should generate the revenues necessary to support the core functions of state government without unduly crippling job creation and economic progress.”

In addition to considering bills related to taxes, the Finance Committee oversees legislation dealing with the operation of the Pennsylvania Lottery, its games and ticket sales. The committee also reviews legislation regarding the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE) Program, both of which are funded by the lottery.

“These programs help our senior citizens to stay in their homes and pay for their medications,” Benninghoff said. “We have a responsibility to ensure these initiatives are fiscally solvent and can endure year after year.”

In addition to serving as Finance Committee chairman, Benninghoff has been appointed to serve on the House Professional Licensure Committee. That body reviews legislation that establishes rules governing the licenses required to engage in certain professions in the Commonwealth.
