BELLEFONTE – State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) is hosting an informal seminar on how to protect yourself or your loved one against scams aimed at harming senior citizens.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Friday, April 24, from 10-11:30 a.m. at Foxdale Village, 5000 East Maryland Ave., State College.

“Identity thieves and other pathetic criminals target seniors, who are the most generous and honest people among us,” Benninghoff said. “It is a sad reality of the world we live in, but we can fight back with the right tools and the latest information. I want people to be armed with the knowledge they need to protect themselves. That’s what this seminar is all about.”

Geared toward seniors and their caretakers, the seminar will provide information about scams perpetrated via phone, email and mail, as well as those committed in person. Michelle Nutter from the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General will lead the seminar. Those in attendance will be given the opportunity to ask questions.

Seating is limited to the first 130 people. Those with questions can call 814-355-3523.
