– State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) issued a call to action on his legislative Facebook page today, encouraging residents of the 171st Legislative District, and beyond, to be #Americastrong and #Americaproud by proudly displaying their American flag during the Commonwealth’s statewide stay-at-home order to slow the spread of COVID-19.
“So often, we only hear the negative in the news, but there are great things going on in our community and in our nation as we fight this pandemic,” Benninghoff said. “Innovation, generosity, grit and national pride are on the rise.”
“You might not be able to help or thank every essential grocery store clerk, cleaning professional, first responder, sanitation or utility worker, volunteer, restaurant owner, delivery driver, volunteer or medical professional personally, but you can show them that we, as a community, Commonwealth and nation, are behind them.”
For the next 30 days, or until this stay-at-home order has lifted, Benninghoff asked residents to proudly display their American flag at their home or business.
“Let it be a powerful message to our neighbors and to those who drive down our quiet streets as they leave the safety of their homes to keep our country and our health care system going, that we might be shuttered in, but we are not knocked down,” Benninghoff said.
“The United States of America has been through a lot of challenges throughout our history, and I want to remind you that we've always stepped up to the plate. Everyday people, like you and I, stepped up to make things happen. We will have challenges ahead, but, we will come through this COVID-19 pandemic stronger as a nation, just like we always do.”
