Benninghoff Joins Governor to Announce Higher Education Funding Won’t be Cut in Budget Proposal
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) today joined Gov. Tom Corbett and leaders from higher education institutions across Pennsylvania to announce that funding in the governor’s budget proposal, which he will unveil in detail on Tuesday, will remain level for the upcoming fiscal year. Following the news conference, Benninghoff issued the following statement:

“Today’s announcement is good news for taxpayers, parents and students across the Commonwealth. Keeping the cost of higher education down will help to ensure more students can reach for the dream of a college diploma.

“For years, a college education has been a ticket to higher earning potential and better jobs for Pennsylvanians. It is important that we keep costs down so that more families have access to these opportunities.

“By stretching the funding they receive, Pennsylvania colleges and universities are helping to reduce the debt burden that students will face when they enter the workforce.

“Taxpayers deserve to know that the dollars they are investing in higher education are being used in a fiscally responsible manner. The stable funding would be provided with an understanding that higher education institutions in Pennsylvania will take steps to hold tuition increases to a minimum.”
